We are working on some printable maps that will help our visitors to get a sense of the peninsula and help with getting people in and out of the village. We will also have detailed maps of the village and the location of the various events.
Parking and the movement of people and resources in and out of the village is a major public safety concern. There is very little parking available in the village itself. Most of it will be taken up initially by staff. There are no sidewalks or places for people to safely walk into the village, and we have to provide access for public safety personnel and event participants. Personnel will be on hand to guide you to available parking and shuttle buses will get you to the events efficiently and safely.
Essential vehicles must be able to freely move in and out of the village in case of an emergency and not pose a threat themselves to public safety. There is no shoulder on the road approaching the village, so pedestrian traffic cannot be allowed as it poses a threat not only to the pedestrian but to the vehicles that must use the road into the village because of blind spots on curves etc. It is not a very user friendly road in places!
At different times of the day, and on different days as we anticipate that different events will attract different numbers of people, the volume of traffic and the availability of parking will change; as the nearer lots are filled up, people will be directed to use lots where shuttle buses will get them into the village. For example, the State Park is very popular and has a huge parking lot. It will fill up on a sunny weekend day with beach goers. After 3 p.m. however, spaces will become available for afternoon and evening visitors to the celebration.
